Context

Cineplex, Canada’s leading entertainment and media company, wanted to update their mobile app to create a more seamless guest experience. The project kicked off in late April, development started in June, and by the end of October, the very first version of the app was launched on the App Store and Google Play, just in time for the holiday season.

Moving forward, Cineplex, in collaboration with Mirego, is set to evolve the movie-going experience. This partnership with Cineplex promises a cutting-edge solution that will captivate movie-goers and enhance their entertainment experience.

Objectives

Building Blocks: Laying the foundation of a new app experience

The goal of the first phase was simple: lay a durable foundation for the future. By redesigning the app, Cineplex aimed to create a robust platform that not only enhanced transaction efficiency and value but also established a reliable base for ongoing innovation. The long-term goal remains to foster loyalty with guests by continuously delivering best-in-class, engaging, and personalized experiences.

Approach

The first phase of the Cineplex app redesign was a testament to rapid adaptation and collaborative success. We quickly synchronized our workflow with Cineplex’s existing frameworks, streamlining the design process with a structured calendar that efficiently guided us through each phase. The dedication of everyone involved allowed us to navigate the project's tight timeline creatively and effectively. This diligent approach ensured the project was delivered on time and within budget, paving the way for future enhancements and setting a robust foundation for ongoing innovation.

Movies and Events

On the app's homepage, users can explore the latest releases and upcoming movies, indie films, international cinema, live concerts, opera, documentaries, art exhibitions, and more. By checking a movie’s page, they can see detailed information, watch the trailer, and find showtimes at nearby theatres.

Showtimes and Tickets

Users can plan their movie night with a few simple taps. They can find their preferred Cineplex Theatre, browse showtimes, and buy their tickets. Upon arrival, they can scan their tickets straight from the app and dive into their cinematic experience!

Premium Experiences

Cinema enthusiasts can choose a premium experience within the app, showcasing high-end options like UltraAVX, IMAX, D-BOX, RealD 3D, and more.

Scene+ Loyalty Program

Members can connect their Scene+ account to the Cineplex app, allowing them to earn and redeem reward points for movies, meals, and more at Cineplex theatres.

Pre-order Snacks

Users can pre-order and pay for their favorite snacks and treats directly from their phone. This way, they can skip the line and pick up their order at the counter seamlessly.
